Prayer for Priests

God our Father, we pray to you for priests.
Pour out upon them your spirit of holiness
so that your fatherhood may be spread among us!
O Jesus, light of the nations,
grant that your servants, our priests,
might speak as you would speak, suffer as you would suffer,
offer themselves as you offered yourself,
and love as you loved!

Enlighten them with the true light, not that of the world,
but that of God! May they be for us
the salt of the earth and the perfume of your presence
Place in their hearts a burning love for the Holy Eucharist!

Mother Mary, always faithful towards your children,
make us a holy people, a royal priesthood!
Receive in your heart our prayers and our sacrifices
so that we may have priestly vocations!
Amen

Ordination 1

Since the very beginning of the Emmanuel Community, Pierre Goursat (founder) saw the importance of priestly vocations

His concern was that the priests continue throughout their whole lives to desire holiness and to become true missionaries.

He felt that priests should not be alone,
but rather be surrounded by brothers and sisters ;
not only by priests
but also by lay people who share the same gift from God and evangelise together.

There are presently about 100 young men on their way to the priesthood.

Priests of the Community along with the other members
live a common call marked by the Outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

They wish to evangelise in a bold way and be bearers of hope.

They live in a spirit of praise, seized by the mystery of the Eucharist, moved with compassion for those who do not know the love of God…

Together with their brothers and sisters in the Community they wish to be authentic witnesses of God’s love.

The Emmanuel Community now has about 200 priests in France and in other countries: Germany, Austria, Belgium, Spain, Hungary, Italy, Holland, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Cameroun, Democraic Republic of Congo, Ivory Coast, Rwanda, Peru, Brazil, Australia ...

The priests of the Emmanuel Community work in dioceses and in missions. Many work in parishes, others are lecturers, some are on mission to far off places, and some work full time for the community.

Seminarians

At present there are 95 seminarians from 43 dioceses and 32 different countries. Six are on mission with FIDESCO.

They come from :

  • Europe (64 of whom 42 are French)
  • North America (3)
  • Africa (21)
  • Asia (6)
  • Australia (1)

Most of the seminarians walking with the Emmanuel Community have their formation at the seminaries of PARIS, BORDEAUX, the French Seminary in ROME, at the House of Notre Dame de la Providence linked to the Institut d’Etudes Théologiques in BRUSSELS, at the Maison Saint Joseph linked to the seminary at NAMUR, to the seminaries of MUNICH  in Germany and the seminary of ABIDJAN on the Ivory Coast.

Besides, 21 young men have begun a year of discernment and community formation, with 16 at the Maison Saint Joseph in Namur and 5 in Africa.
