Consecrating ones life to Mary is a special way to
find Jesus Christ and to love him tenderly. It is a total gift of oneself for
ones whole life and for eternity.
All the saints had a great devotion to the Virgin.
For example, Fr. Kolbe, but also Blessed Mary of the Crucified Jesus who was
born in the Holy Land. Her parents, whom she lost at a very early age,
consecrated her to Mary. She was received in a family of Muslims. When she
later refused the husband which was being presented to her, she was beaten to death
and thrown on the streets. This is when she saw a Lady in a dream who really
came to take care of her. “I am always with you !” she said to her.
I recall my catechist who, at an advanced age, went
through all the streets of the village, with his rosary. All the children came
towards him because they felt loved.
I was also struck to see John Paul II whose motto is
Totus Tuus, pray his rosary during the welcoming ceremonies at the cathedral in
Yaoundé. He was praying ….
“I am the servant of the Lord, may it be done unto me
according to your Word”. This is the motto of Mary. She leads us to God by
inviting us to penance, to pray for sinners and for our conversion so that the
Kingdom of God, which is of Love, may be spread all throughout the world. By consecrating
ourselves to her, we enter into the “Yes” of Mary. Here, we can find true
freedom ….
The spirit of this consecration is to make the soul
interiorly capable of depending on the love of the most Holy Virgin and through
her, on Jesus himself. Consecration to Mary, Totus Tuus.
Consecration to Mary only finds meaning if it turns
us towards Christ and helps us in our vocation in the world.
