SOS Prayer

Prayer 24hrs a day

The challenge

To be able to find someone to pray with you at any time on the phone.

SOS Prayer has been active day and night for over 30 years. Serving in SOS helps one to experience compassion for all men and women through those who call in. The person who calls SOS Prayer is neither judged nor given counsel, but listened to discreetly. They are then prayed with and for. The requests from callers are many and varied – for example, from ‘James, who suffers a lot physically’ or from ‘Jane, in great distress and loneliness, who is tempted to kill herself’.

SOS Prayer was launched in 1979 by Pierre Goursat, when a member of the Community mentioned the need. The founder of the Emmanuel wanted any person whosoever to be able to find someone to pray with 24hrs a day. This is a service of compassion.
