Bioethics and human life

Making the major choices in life clear

The challenge

  • To make Bioethics and the major social issues of human life accessible to everyone.
  • To give daily information and support to health professionals

For doctors, nurses, philosophers, theologians, lawyers , parents, educators etc.

  • A Bioethics website for everyone (
  • A bioethics seminar for all at Paray-le-Monial, every year for the last 12 years.
  • Gynecology Days for everyone
  • International meetings for doctors or medical students, once a year in Paray-le-Monial – meetings, conferences, workshops, testimonies.
  • Medical fraternities – groups of Catholic doctors who meet to pray together and talk about their professional lives in the light of the Word of God.

In 2000, the Emmanuel Community decided to respond to the call that Pope John Paul II repeatedly made, especially in his ‘Gospel of Life’, published March 25, 1995: What is urgently called for is a general mobilization of consciences and a united ethical effort to activate a great campaign in support of life. All together, we must build a new culture of life.’ (Evangelium Vitae §95). A small group was formed, and, encouraged by Cardinal Barbarin, started the first bioethics conference at Paray-le-Monial in November 2002.

‘Bioethics & Human life’ is a branch of ‘Love & Truth’ devoted to bioethical issues
